Beautiful Bookstores....
Pay a visit to ABA's home page to see the latest bookstore photos added to our collection - in particular, check out the bookstore cat who makes me want to take a nap every time I open the page. (No, I shouldn't blame the cat. I've just returned from ABA's very busy Publisher Focus Groups.)
I delete so many spam comments these days that there's no reason not to tell you about bookporn, which is full of gorgeous photos of the Seminary Co-Op Bookstore.
Oh, and watch Suheir Hammad read "Not Your Erotic, Not Your Exotic" on Laila Lalami's blog. (Spammers, do your worst!)
I'm not going to touch on the literary scandal of the week except to say that Bibliovore has the perfect solution: she's created the Gilderoy Lockhart Medal for Most Fictionalized Memoir.
At this point, it's very likely that your store has been added to the LibraryThing Local database - but drop by to check. I take no responsibility if you look up from the screen and realize an hour has gone by. (Tim gets bonus points for not only encouraging more than 700 people to make this a very cool feature, but also using "smurf bees" to describe it.)
Some tidbits from my almost-home state: RCBlog reports that River City Books is holding a benefit day for the Minnesota Book Awards. And a PW/SLJ article introduced me to the legions of publishers quartered in and around the Twin Cities. Now if they could just do something about the weather...
Libba Bray explains why she loves fan fiction, especially the sort that involves her characters: "That anyone would feel such love for characters or worlds that I've
created that they want to invest more time and energy into those
characters and worlds?wow. I feel very honored by that."
But as Kassia, quoting Stephen Page, reminds us, the Internet is a wonderful gathering space for the "bookish."
I'm going to end this week's post by using this bookish community to offer yet another plug for the book I've been recommending since I finished it Monday night: The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society. It's absolutely fabulous, and I'm not the only one who thinks so!
