Children's Choice Book Awards Announced

The winners of the third annual Children's Choice Book Awards, sponsored by the Children's Book Council in association with Every Child a Reader, Inc. (the CBC Foundation), were announced at a gala in New York City on Tuesday, May 11. The winners were chosen by children who voted for their favorite books, author, and illustrator at bookstores, school libraries, and at www.BookWeekOnline.com. More than 115,000 votes were cast.

ABA Launches New Member Relations Department

To ensure that booksellers have a simple and convenient way to get information about the opportunities available to them as part of their membership, the American Booksellers Association has created a new Member Relations Department.

Two member relations managers will serve as the main contacts for all bookstore and provisional members. "Elizabeth Nichols and Kaitlin Pitcher are eager to help," said Membership and Marketing Officer Meg Zelickson Smith.

Connecticut Booksellers Asked to Contact House Reps in Support of E-Fairness

The American Booksellers Association and the New England Independent Booksellers Association (NEIBA) are urging Connecticut bookstore members to contact their state representatives to voice their support for HB 5481, sales tax fairness legislation. In late March, Connecticut's Finance, Revenue, and Bonding Committee passed the legislation by a vote of 35 - 13. Connecticut's House of Representatives is now considering the bill.
