The IndieCommunication e-newsletter for June 7 featured news about a webinar on order processing plus reminders about going mobile-friendly, reviews on IndieCommerce and IndieLite sites, and signing up for one-on-ones at the ABC Children’s Institute.
Order Processing Webinar for IndieLite Websites
So you have an IndieLite website and it looks great. But are you taking care of your orders correctly? A great-looking site is wonderful, but processing orders is arguably the most important thing you can do with your site. Join the IndieCommerce team for a look at best practices and common pitfalls when processing orders on IndieLite sites. Make sure your customers are getting the most value from your site, and that you’re getting the most return from your customers.
IndieCommerce Training Manager Scott Nafz will present this 30-minute webinar plus a Q&A session from 2:00 to 2:45 p.m. on Thursday, June 14. Sign up today.
Are You Mobile-Friendly?
Believe it or not, the first day of summer is almost here! People are going to abandon their laptops and desktops and roam free with their cell phones on their summer vacations. Is your website ready? Make sure your IndieCommerce site is using a mobile-friendly, responsive theme. Not sure if your site is responsive? Check it out on your cell phone and if it looks terrible, drop us an e-mail at email@example.com.
Book Reviews Coming to IndieCommerce & IndieLite
The American Booksellers Association is partnering with Literary Hub to bring professional reviews to book pages on IndieCommerce and IndieLite websites as well as IndieBound.org.
Readers visiting IndieBound.org will see at least three book reviews, courtesy of LitHub’s Book Marks, on certain title pages. Reviews will also appear automatically on IndieLite sites; stores using the IndieCommerce platform can easily enable the LitHub feature on their site. Here is an example from Third Place Books of what a product page on an IndieCommerce site would look like.
IndieCommerce stores that wish to have this feature on their website can opt in from this configuration page: Store -> Configuration -> Account Information and Preferences -> Configure Book Settings.

Schedule a One-on-One Session at Ci6 in New Orleans
The IndieCommerce team is scheduling one-on-one sessions with participating stores attending the ABC Children’s Institute in New Orleans. Appointment dates are Tuesday, June 19; Wednesday, June 20; and Thursday, June 21. All one-on-one sessions will be held in the Rampart Room at the Sheraton New Orleans.
Tip of the Week
Sales tax calculation update: This past January, the IndieCommerce team made changes to the sales tax calculation code for online sales with in-store pickup. To keep these sales tax calculations accurate, booksellers need to enter the expanded nine-digit ZIP Code for their store(s). Stores that don’t know their nine-digit ZIP Code can visit the USPS website.
Once you have the number, go to: Store -> Configuration -> Store, then select the “store address” tab. Change the ZIP Code and save.
Questions about this change can be sent to email@example.com.
Booksellers are encouraged to send their thoughts, questions, or suggestions via e-mail to IndieCommerce staff at any time.
