Booksellers are invited to join the American Booksellers Association in Denver for a Spring Forum on Wednesday, March 22. Along with an open forum discussion of industry issues, the program will feature the new education session “Bookstores — An Inclusive Place for Dialogue and Discovery.”

ABA programming is being presented in conjunction with the Mountains & Plains Independent Booksellers Association [5] (MPIBA) and is open to all booksellers, ABA members and non-members alike. Booksellers planning to attend are asked to RSVP here [6].

The March 22 forum program, hosted by ABA CEO Oren Teicher and Senior Program Officer Joy Dallanegra-Sanger, will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Elevation Meeting Room at the Crowne Plaza Denver, located at 1450 Glenarm Place. Lunch will be served at 11:45 a.m.

ABA President Betsy Burton of The King’s English Bookshop [7] in Salt Lake City and ABA Board Member Valerie Koehler of Blue Willow Bookshop [8] in Houston will lead the education session. Participating booksellers will be asked to share ideas and discuss how bookstores can foster communication and create opportunities for people of diverse backgrounds to express and respond to differing views in the welcoming setting of a bookstore.

This nontraditional education session is designed to be an interactive discussion that fosters open communication and problem solving — in both large and small groups — to clarify strategies for strengthening the unique role that bookstores play in their communities.

MPIBA will be hosting additional programming following the forum, including an open discussion regarding the Fall Discovery Show, roundtables on “The Best Thing I Did Last Year,” and an MPIBA Advisory Council Meeting. The day will be capped by an Author Reception from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Tattered Cover Book Store LoDo [9] (1628 16th Street in Denver).

For additional programming and hotel information, visit MPIBA’s website [10]. See the complete Spring Forum schedule here [11].
